First of all, I'm a member of my high school's ALGSS group. Algss = Alliance of Lesbian Gay and Straight Students. We participate in Day of Silence each year, or at least I have. We often go to local Diversity Day or Gay Rights meetings. So far this year, I have attempted to organize a gay rights table with all sorts of information for a human rights dance. Though that failed due to lack of school support. I am now trying to start a member recruitment campaign to add to our five member meetings, and that's on a good day. The next thing on our agenda is to teach a class period during the school day. The human rights groups of school have selected a day to conduct some workshops. As a group we\'re trying to decide what to do to fill up our time slot. I'll make another post giving updates after these pass.
Okay, now for the why. Gay rights is basically my life and it affects most parts of it. My mom is a lesbian and I have known this for the past six years. This information was only a small part of my life during middle school, only a few people knew about it and I barely understood what it meant myself. But towards the end of my eighth grade year, another person very close to me came out to me as well. For over ten years now, I have also been a part of the Big Brother Big Sister program and my big sister was also a lesbian. She explain the whole idea of being gay to me until I understood. So once I got to high school, I realized I was bisexual and came out. The past four years. I have put up with so much crap being of my own and my mom's sexuality. I joined ALGSS to try and change this. | WINGS | WINGS from: 2 users
