Okay, so hopefully most know of PETA. They are a huge Animal Rights (AR) organization. There have been good and bad things said about PETA. Well, from researching this, here is what I have come up with. Though, yes, PETA is big and has done a ton to help with AR, there is much more they could do. Personally, I think they are causing more harm than good. First of all, PETA is just like any other sexist media. They exploit women to bring attention to AR. Some supporters say that it 'is necessary to bring attention to the cause.' And though it does bring attention to AR, I think there are better ways to get about that, then printing posters with half naked celebrities. Which brings me to my next point. Most have heard the stories of PETA killing animals because they are brought to them, and they plea that they kill them because they are ‘not an animal shelter.' This is true, PETA is not an animal shelter. But you have to think about it. All of that money PETA uses to endorse these half-dressed ads, they could easily use to build an animal sanctuary, more or less. It makes me sick that they pay to have people pose with animals, rather than using that money to actually help the animals, in a more forward and productive way. Though many sites like, don't quote me on this, petakillsanimals.com, or something of the sort is a load of BS. Those are sites run by the Center of Consumer Freedom (CCF). The site says they care about the humanity of the animals and all, but look at the people who run it: owners of big milk, dairy, tobacco corporations. Not to mention huge restaurant chains like Outback. They are just trying to make a few (thousand...) bucks. And that is sick. Here are a few AR sites that seem good and valid: www.vivausa.org afa-online.org and a bit extreme, but totally for the cause, www.animalliberationfront.com Hope this is helpful, go veg! ~Allie
