Okay! I'm going to call myself an internet addict. Yeah, kinda funny. I spend about 19/7 on the internet. The internet is a world on it's own, a world behind a screen. You can find practically everything and anything on the internet! There're even social networks like facebook! Oooh... Okay! so this post is about the internet and youngsters. There was a 12 year old girl that got raped by some 28 year old dude who tricked her into thinking he was a handicapped 13 year old (fake identity - picture, interests...) and made her think they had met once. Her parents talked to him on facebook (he was her "online boyfriend" and approved, little did they know who he really was! He met up with her at an Alladin pantomime, then later on took her back to his hotel with him and raped her (he lied that his accident that left him paralysed aged him and made him biggish). So, he raped her! Parents of little kids should have some input in their kid's online lives and make the child be able to trust them. There are thousands of paedophiles on the internet nowadays, trust me, I've met one (not in person)..blocked him. I started using laptop and computers at a young age. I started using the internet at 5 (honestly). I joined my first social network at 6 and I told my parents about it when I was 9 (3 years!). Luckily, I joined a Christian website and not some mumbo-jumbo, weird website (luckily, we didn't have as many of those then as there are now). I never really trusted my parents and I still don't. Strangely, they never worried why I was on the laptop till odd hours of the morning. Kids fake their ages and join msn, facebook... there's a reason for the age restriction! If parents check in on their kids more often and not in a nosy, I-must-know-what-you're-doing way, they'll be able to monitor every action and be sure to make sure their child never plans a meet with an online friend. Most people aren't who they seem over the 'net. Time to bash a website: teenchat.com Haha!! "Teen" chat. Why not paedochat.com? Most people on that site are 22 year olds and above. They poison the minds of young teens and try to have cam-to-cam sessions (some of you'll know what I mean) with them. Yeah, I joined a site at a young age, I didn't tell my parents till 3 years after I joined. I've been on that site for almost 8 years now, my parent's know about it, my parents know some of my friends on it. I have my own social network now (I own it), my friends from that site joined, I have a video chat on it and now, I'm sure of who they are! So, parent's should monitor their kids or find a good way to be sure of who your kids are talking to. SAY 'NO' TO PAEDOPHILES! SAY 'NO' TO ONLINE PAEDOPHILES! AND SAY 'NO' TO UNDERAGE KIDS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS WITHOUT MODERATION! Let's save some kids from the horror that poor little 12 year old went through. The guy that raped her might go to jail, but she will always be scarred and scared.

I started using the internet at a young age too, and if I wasn't as mature as I am who knows what could have happened to me. My parents don't monitor what I do online, we were only friends on Facebook for picture sharing, but my parents never pay attention to what I do, but I agree with what you're saying, even though my parents don't doesn't mean they shouldn't. I think ALL parents should pay attention to what their kids are doing to prevent situations like this (or other things like cyber bullying) I think I'll do a journal about Cyber bullying!
