Hi, I'm Katie. I'm new here, and new to the entire activism thing. However, I am eager to get involved in these causes, and bring attention to them.
The first thing I would like to address is the major and increasing issue of homophobia and bullying someone solely because of their sexuality. It seems as if our society, and even our peers have condemned those who are only a bit different than us. In the past few years, the suicide rate of young teenagers have risen extraordinarily. Those who have not even completed school have began to feel so worthless, alone, and tormented that suicide has become their only solution.
My theory is that kids are influenced by adults, and what they hear. When you're young, younger than teenage years, you believe a lot from the adults in your life, correct? So, I think that kids hear that the LGBT society is immoral, sinful, and should be condemned. Therefore, they take action on what they have heard, and lash out on the LGBT society.
Even if the idea for them to bully has come from some influence, I think that seeing the rising number of suicides should also influence them not to bully, because it creates pain and misery in other's lives.
I feel that there is not enough groups out there like the 'It Gets Better' project, etc. I know that they do a lot for the issue, and they should be recognized for it, I just feel that the issue should be more advocated, and there should be more awareness for it.
To make a difference in my community, and help those who struggle with the issue of homophobia and bullying, I will:
-Speak out if I see the mistreating of anyone, not only the LGBT community.
-Report bullying, and keep bringing it up until the appropriate amount of awareness is brought to it, and maintained.
-Be a friend and supporter to those who suffer through these issues.
-Do anything to advocate the issue.
That was my first entry, so I see that I might not have done this correctly, but I feel that I have spoken my mind on the issue, and hope that it is enough.

HOWEVER, I dare not bully anyone because of their sexuality. I have not right to. Seriously, who gave anyone the right to bully another person for any reason not just their sexuality.
I know many people are against Christians because they say things like LGBTs are sinners or God hates homosexuals or they tell an LGBT, 'you're gonna go to hell!" I should state that I'm a Christian, but WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO BE SO JUDGEMENTAL TOWARDS ANOTHER PERSON?!?! You have your views, yeah, but you're not going to get anything across if you're going to bully someone in the process. The Bible states not to be judgemental and it also states that by LGBT is just as bad a sin as lying and other petty sins.
