Ahh Southern California and Orange County. Both great places to live. But many times, especially in southern Orange County, the beautiful scenery seems to many as such a given. I recently helped at the Upper Newport Bay in taking out roots from mustard plants that had been put into the area but were now posing a threat as we were putting back native plants into the location. It was a group of around thirty of us, all either planting or taking out roots and it made me think. On a Sunday afternoon, in the whole area of populated Central Orange County with hundreds of thousands of people, only around thirty of us showed up, a good portion being my school's key club which I had brought with me, along with some Boy Scouts and a few leos. www.volunteermatch.org is a great place for finding places to volunteer, and its so important especially now to remember that the great environment around us won't last forever. We need to take action to save it! Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts)
