Its about Darfur. Give up your prom to help save thousands. March 9th, 2007, the "No Prom for Darfur" dance will begin at 7. $25 per student, 225 students maximum, all in a place where they are also able to learn about the events in Sudan. Dennis-Yarmouth Regional HS's STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) group, affiliated with the school's Amnesty International club, introduced the idea. We hope to raise awareness about the tragedy overseas, but not only on Cape Cod, we hope news will travel throughout the state, nation and world.
This is a major activism project I'm involved in to help stop the genocide in Sudan. Our group also has other projects which we will use to spread the news about Human Rights campaigns. Planned for April is the "Get On the Bus" trip, which is a full day of activism in New York city. Another plan is a Cape wide battle of the bands, where the winners of Battle of the bands from each Cape school will have the opportunity to battle the rest of Cape.
