Earlier in the year, my school decided to "secure" the pre-paid lunch account program by using fingerprinting for account access. Previously, we would enter our student ID numbers at a time of purchase but some people were apparently using the accounts of others. However, our lunch ladies should have been at fault since the computers allowing them to input the information offered a picture of the student who inputted account information, however most of the time they would simply not look. The test program would only fingerprint students in athletic teams at the beginning. While administration claimed that opting out was a possiblity after outrage, it was no where in literature sent home to parents or in the school mentioned as a choice. Our administration also stated that there was no loss to privacy as only 6 "points" on our finger would be collected. Whether it was a lie or an honest mistake, this was incorrect as law enforcement can apparently use as few points as five (I believe that was the number). Then, one of my fellow classmates who was outraged has put up posters (at the time not knowing he was allowed to opt out) around our campus stating "Five points. You don't have a choice" with a large picture of a fingerprint above the text. The signs were immediately taken down. After outrage by parents, I personally decided to contact my local ACLU chapter who, along with several parents, contacted my school district who had not known that the fingerprinting program was taking place at my school. They told our administration to immediately put a halt to the program, successfully ending the violation to our rights as students
I'm sorry to say this. But I'm glad I never went to your school. Because I would refuse to even give my fingure prints. Thats just wrong to do so. Wow. And I dont even have the same fingure prints on both my pointer fingers so that would have sucked majorly. Good I'm glad that they stoped that. That just gets right into your personal buisness..
